Learning About Fire:

The Angeles National Forest Fire Lookout Association (ANFFLA) is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization and Section 3 of our bylaws states, "to instruct the general public in fire prevention".  While staffing the fire lookout towers, fire lookout volunteers are available to inform the public regarding wildland fire education.  Fire is a necessary component of the forest, but only in a natural environment.  Wildland "out of control" fires need to be managed or damge to the environment, and danger to lives will occur.  Learning about fire and its role in the forest is important for everyone that loves the forest.

THE "URBAN INTERFACE"

The Urban Interface - Homes in Danger

A real life story from an Urban Interface resident, Matt Artz and family.  Matt took the time to take some great photographs and take a few notes, showing the drama of how his town became victim of the "2003 Old Fire" that distroyed 993 homes and burned 91,281 acres.

Photographs reprinted with permission and are copyrighted 2003 & 2004 by Matt Artz.  Do not use content without permission.
